Frequently asked questions
Is the favicon generator free, and what files do I get?
Yes, it’s free with no sign-up. The ZIP includes favicon.ico (16, 32 and 48 px), PNGs at 16, 32 and 48 px, a 180 px apple-touch-icon, 192 and 512 px Android icons, a 512 px maskable icon, site.webmanifest and a ready-to-paste HTML snippet. Emoji and system-font text also get favicon.svg.
Is my logo uploaded to create the favicon?
No. All icons, the .ico file and the ZIP are created in your browser with canvas, so your logo never leaves your device. Only helper files, the ZIP library and two display fonts, are downloaded when needed.
How do I add a favicon to my website?
Download the pack and upload the files to your site, usually the root folder (/). If you use another folder, enter it as the Icon path first. Then copy the HTML snippet into the head section of every page, or your site template, and refresh the browser to see the new icon.
What size should a favicon be?
Browsers use 16×16 and 32×32 pixels in tabs, 48×48 on some desktops, 180×180 for iPhone home screens and 192×192 or 512×512 for Android and installed web apps. This generator creates all of them from one design, so start with an image at least 512 pixels wide.
How do I make a favicon from text or an emoji?
Open the Text tab and type up to 3 letters, then choose a font and text color, or open the Emoji tab and pick or paste an emoji. Set the background and shape, and the favicon pack is ready. Emoji favicons and system-font letters also include a sharp SVG version.
Why isn’t my new favicon showing in the browser?
Browsers cache favicons aggressively. Check that the files are at the path in your HTML, then hard-refresh the page, open it in a private window, or clear the browser cache. Google search results can take days or weeks to show a new favicon.
