  4. 4. Click ⇄ Swap to reverse the direction, for example to see how many dollars you get back for euros.

Frequently asked questions

Is the currency converter free, and how often are rates updated?

Yes, it’s free with no sign-up. Rates come from a free public feed of daily reference rates, and the page shows the date they were last updated. Rates are cached for 30 minutes while the page is open, so you won’t see minute-by-minute market moves.

What data does the currency converter send, and is it private?

Only the base currency code, for example USD, is requested from the open.er-api.com rate service. The amount you type never leaves your browser, because the math happens on your device. We don’t save your conversions.

Why is my bank or credit card rate different from this converter?

This tool shows a mid-market reference rate with no fees. Banks, card networks and exchange desks add a markup or foreign-transaction fee, so the rate you actually get is usually a little worse. Use it as a benchmark, not a quote.

How do I convert US dollars to euros?

Leave USD in the first dropdown and EUR in the second, which is the default, then type the amount in dollars. The euro value appears instantly with the rate below it. Click ⇄ Swap to convert euros back to dollars.

Which currencies does the converter support?

It covers 31 currencies: USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, JPY, CHF, CNY, INR, MXN, BRL, SEK, NOK, DKK, PLN, CZK, HUF, RON, TRY, NZD, SGD, HKD, KRW, ZAR, AED, ILS, PHP, THB, IDR, MYR and VND. Cryptocurrencies aren’t included.

How accurate are the converted amounts?

Results are rounded to two decimal places and shown in US number format, and the rate is shown to four decimals. Accuracy depends on the daily reference feed, so treat results as estimates for budgeting and travel planning, not for trading or official accounting.
