- 1. Pick the Text language of your image from 20 options; keep + English ticked if the image mixes that language with English.
- 2. Drop a screenshot, photo or scanned page onto the upload area, or click to choose one image under 12 MB.

Frequently asked questions
Is this image to text converter free, and are there limits?
Yes, it’s free with no sign-up and no daily cap. It reads one image at a time, and images must be under 12 MB, because larger files can run out of memory in the browser, especially on phones.
Are my images uploaded when I extract text from them?
No. Text recognition runs in your browser with the open-source Tesseract.js engine, so your image never reaches our server. The engine and the language data are downloaded from a public CDN the first time you use them, which is why the first scan is slower.
How do I copy text from a screenshot or photo?
Choose the language, drop the image in and wait for the progress bar. The extracted text appears in an editable box; click Copy to put it on your clipboard or Download .txt to save it. Fix any misread characters before using the text.
Why is the OCR result wrong or empty?
OCR works best on sharp, well-lit, high-contrast printed text that’s straight rather than tilted. Blurry phone shots, fancy fonts, handwriting and text over busy backgrounds often come out garbled or aren’t detected. Crop to the text area, choose the right language and try a clearer image.
Which languages can the image to text tool read?
You can choose English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Swedish, Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese or Indonesian. Tick + English to recognize English words mixed into another language.
Can I extract text from a PDF or handwritten notes?
This tool reads image files such as JPG, PNG and WebP; for a PDF, use a PDF to text tool or save the page as an image first. Handwriting recognition is limited, since the engine is trained mainly on printed text, so neat block letters work far better than cursive.
