How do I convert a HEX color code to RGB?
Type the hex code, such as #FF5733 (the # is optional), into the text box. The RGB row shows rgb(255, 87, 51) right away. Each pair of hex digits is one channel, red, green and blue, converted from base 16 to a number from 0 to 255; a 3-digit code like #F53 is short for #FF5533.
How do I convert RGB to HEX?
Type or paste the RGB value into the text box — rgb(255, 87, 51), rgba(255, 87, 51, 0.5), the modern rgb(255 87 51 / 50%) or just 255, 87, 51 — and the HEX row shows #FF5733. Each 0–255 value becomes two hex digits; with transparency you also get an 8-digit HEX8 code.
What is HSL, and when should I use it instead of HEX?
HSL stands for hue, saturation and lightness. Hue is the color angle (0–360°), and saturation and lightness are percentages. It’s easier for creating shades: keep the hue and change the lightness to make lighter or darker versions of a brand color for hover states or backgrounds.
Which color formats does the converter support?
You can type HEX with 3, 4, 6 or 8 digits (4 and 8 include alpha), rgb() and rgba(), hsl() and hsla(), hsv(), cmyk() and any CSS color name such as tomato or rebeccapurple. It outputs HEX, HEX8 for transparent colors, RGB, HSL, HSV/HSB and CMYK. CMYK is a simple screen conversion, so ask your printer for exact ink values.
