Frequently asked questions

Is Merge PDF free, and how many files can I combine?

It’s free, needs no sign-up and adds no watermark. There’s no fixed limit on the number of files or pages; merging happens in your browser, so very large documents depend on your device’s memory. You can keep adding files with the Add PDF button.

Are my PDF files uploaded when I merge them?

No. Page thumbnails are drawn with PDF.js and the merged file is built with pdf-lib, both running in your browser. Your PDFs stay on your device, which makes it suitable for contracts, statements and other private documents.

How do I change the page order when merging PDFs?

After adding files, drag any page thumbnail to a new position in the grid; the page numbers update as you go. You can mix pages from different files in any order, since each page is its own card, and a colored dot shows which file it came from.

Can I remove or rotate pages while merging PDFs?

Yes. Click ✕ on a page to leave it out of the final file, or ↻ to rotate it 90 degrees at a time. Rotate all turns every page at once. The original files aren’t changed; only the new merged PDF reflects your edits.

Why won’t my PDF merge?

Password-protected or damaged PDFs can’t be read and show an error message when you add them. Remove the password first with a PDF unlock tool if you own the file, or re-save it from the original app, then try merging again.

Does merging PDFs reduce quality or change the text?

No. Pages are copied as-is into the new document, so text stays selectable and images keep their original quality. The page thumbnails are only low-resolution previews; they aren’t used in the downloaded file.
