Frequently asked questions
Is Split PDF free, and is there a page or file size limit?
Yes, it’s free with no watermark or account. There’s no set page or size limit; because splitting runs in your browser, very large PDFs are limited only by your device’s memory. You can split one PDF at a time into as many parts as you need.
Is my PDF uploaded when I split it?
No. The PDF is opened and split in your browser with the pdf-lib library, so the document never leaves your device. Only the ZIP helper library is downloaded from a public CDN if you choose Download all as ZIP.
How do I extract specific pages from a PDF into a new file?
Choose Extract into one PDF, type the pages you want in Page ranges, for example 2, 5-7, 10-end, and click ✂️ Split PDF. You get a single new PDF containing just those pages in the order you listed them.
How do I split a PDF into separate single pages?
Choose Every page and click ✂️ Split PDF. Each page becomes its own file named with its page number, and Download all as ZIP saves them in one go. To split into chunks instead, choose Every N pages and set Pages per file.
Why can’t I split a password-protected PDF?
If a PDF is encrypted or damaged, the tool may show “Couldn’t read this PDF.” Remove the password first with an unlock tool, using a password you’re authorized to use, then split the unlocked copy.
Does splitting a PDF reduce quality or remove links?
No re-compression happens: pages are copied as they are, so text, images and fonts stay identical and text remains selectable. Some document-level features such as bookmarks or form data may not carry over to the new files.
