How to use Image to WEBP Converter

  1. 1. Drop one or many images into the box: JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, AVIF, HEIC, WebP, TIFF, SVG or ICO. Batch conversion starts right away for every file.
  2. 2. Keep Convert to set to WebP, or switch to AVIF, PNG or JPG. Move the Quality slider, which defaults to 80% for WebP.
  3. 3. Check each card’s preview, new dimensions, file size and percentage change. Changing quality or format re-converts all images automatically.
  4. 4. Click Download on any card, or use Download all as ZIP when you have converted more than one image.

Frequently asked questions

Is the image to WebP converter free, and how many images can I convert?

It is free with no sign-up or watermark. You can drop many images at once and download them together as a ZIP. There is no fixed file limit; the practical limit is your browser’s memory, since every image is converted on your device.

Are my images uploaded when I convert them to WebP?

No. Images are decoded and re-encoded with your browser’s canvas, so they never leave your device. The page only loads helper libraries from a public CDN when needed: a HEIC decoder if you drop an iPhone photo, a TIFF decoder for TIFF files, and a ZIP library when you download all.

What quality should I use when converting to WebP?

The default of 80% gives much smaller files with little visible loss for photos. Try 70 to 80% for websites and 85 to 95% for detailed images. Each card shows the percentage change so you can compare against the original.

Does converting PNG to WebP keep transparency?

Yes. WebP supports an alpha channel, so transparent backgrounds from PNG files are preserved, and AVIF does too. Only JPG output can’t store transparency; for JPG, pick a Background color to fill transparent areas.

Why can’t I convert my image to AVIF?

AVIF appears in the format menu only if your browser can encode it. If it’s missing or the conversion fails, update your browser or use WebP, which is widely supported in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.

Will WebP images work on my website and in other apps?

WebP displays in all current major browsers and is accepted by most CMS platforms, including WordPress. Some older desktop apps and email clients still don’t open WebP; for those, convert to JPG or PNG with the same tool.
